Questions

Where does this gold rate come from?

CalcLK derives an indicative rate: the international XAU/USD spot price converted at the latest USD/LKR exchange rate — the same method the Central Bank documents. It is not the CBSL-published daily figure or a jeweller quote; shops add their own charges.

What is the difference between 24K and 22K?

Karat is stated fineness — how much of the metal is pure gold. 24K is 999 fine (investment bars/coins); 22K is 916 fine, the common Sri Lankan jewellery standard. Per-gram and per-pawn rates scale by that fineness — an 18K piece is never valued at the 22K rate.

What is one pawn of gold?

The Sri Lankan pawn (also called a sovereign) is 8 grams. Jewellery and pawning quotes in Sri Lanka are usually priced per pawn, so the table shows both per-gram and per-pawn figures.

Why is the rate different from a shop quote?

This is the metal value only. A shop adds wastage, making/labour, tax and margin; a pawn advance is typically a percentage of the metal value. Use the calculator or the jewellery price check for those adjustments.
